Matching Gift Challenge
We need your support! Like many nonprofit organizations, November and December are fundraising months for ReconciliAsian to prepare for the next year. We have a $3,500 MATCHING GIFT CHALLENGE from our board and staff members which means every dollar you give will be doubled in November and December up to $3,500.
For the first 30 supporters who donate in November and December in ANY amount, ReconciliAsian will mail you a 12" X 18" hand-printed art created by Hyeyoon Song. The title of the beautiful art piece printed on Japanese mulberry paper is, Peaceable Kingdom.
VEGETARIAN COOKING & CRYING IN H-MART BOOK SOIRÉE
What did we discuss from the book, Crying at H Mart?
On October 30th, local friends of ReconciliAsian gathered to talk about the power of food, memory, and cultural identity. Some of us grew up with vivid memories of eating sashimi for breakfast, seaweed soup on birthdays, and grandma's biscuits and gravy on holidays. We talked about how grief is often connected to the unfinished work of reconciliation. Thus, we return to the familiar- be it a place of food- often with the goal of wanting to reconnect and have a sense of closure with that particular event or person. As you gather during the holidays, you might want to consider asking people around the table about their favorite food and memories connected to it.
What did we make?
Pinenut porridge (Jatjuk), Acorn jelly salad (Dotori Muchim), Bibimbap, Spicy rice cake (Ddukbokki), Vegetable noodle starry (Japchae), Mungbean pancake (Nokdu jeon), Cabbage pancake (Buchu jeon)
