Celebrating 10th anniversary with a matching gift challenge!
It’s hard to believe ReconciliAsian is turning double digits next year and we want to celebrate with you!
We launched the peace center in 2013 in our commitment to live out the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18-21) as part of the Korean Diaspora with a long history of wars, han, beauty and resilience. We wanted to explore how the gospel of peace and reconciliation could be embodied in Asian immigrant communities in the way we relate to our families, congregations, communities, and our motherland across the ocean. With the encouragement of many mentors who shared their wisdom and knowledge, ReconciliAsian was birthed. Our first board chair, Dr. Al Dueck, would often laugh that he has not been able to pronounce “reconciliation” ever since.
We learned through the last nine years that to cultivate a culture of peace requires imagination, experimentation, and laughter. We gathered with those who want to, as John Lewis would say, “make good trouble” for justice and experimented using peacemaking tools that resonated with the Asian Diaspora communities. We led multi-generational and bilingual workshops at over 300 churches and conferences on conflict transformation, restorative justice, circle process, and trauma healing. This work has taken us to speak before thousands of people across the United States and around the world– including the DPRK (North Korea), Japan, and China. During the pandemic when anti-Asian racism rose to new heights, we were able to reach an even wider audience via Zoom. The connections we have made in the past nine years have given us a strong web of support and inspiration for the work ahead– which includes YOU!
In celebration of the 10th anniversary, we are planning some exciting events in 2023:
EMBODYING Peace: Asian Artist Residency: a three-day gathering of Asian-American artists, musicians, writers, and peace builders from across the country to explore reconciliation with God, self, others, and creation.
EXPLORING Peace in Northeast Asia: gathering of political scientists from the U.S. and Korea to collaborate on a book on the issue of building peace in the region.
EATING in Peace: inviting our friends and supporters to our 10th birthday party.
