August 15th or 8.15 is National Liberation Day of Korea. It is the only holiday celebrated in North and South Korea. In South Korea, it is known as "the day the light returned" after 35 years of colonial oppression. There was so much hope but also so much pain as the country was torn by the forces that helped to liberate them. We draw strength from the history in Korea and the U.S. to find more clarity, courage, and calling in our journey towards liberation of all people. ReconciliAsian remembers those who have struggled for freedom and continues the work of liberation for those bound by systemic oppression, racial tensions, and inequality. What does liberation mean to you?
